This brooch is beautifully-made, and one can expect no less from Kenneth Jay Lane in the sixties. It features a Pegasus motif; a winged horse! The body of the pegasus is of an artificial glass lapis lazuli that is very vibrant, while the eye is a single navette emerald cabochon. The brooch is further accented with stars along the neck, and rhinestones on the wings. The pegasus is plated in gold and silver, and it has stars scattered throughout the face. Signed "K.J.L." at the back; one of the oldest marks to be used.
Another one from the 60's.
This lady's collection is incredible.
She hasn't posted in years, wish she would come back.
Anyone here know her?
@Ms.CrystalShip Thank you for your kind words! I haven't been posting because I have been moving around a lot, but I recently settled and will be slowly posting again eventually :)
Sammy, Eileen here, ( ms.Crystalship)
I came across a beautiful brooch with the colors of cabochons KJL used in the 60’s.. and the price is unbelievable. Here’s the problem, I read somewhere that the Hallmark with Periods are found in newer( 80’s-90’s) pieces. I want a piece from the 60’s. It has the capital initials with periods in a cartouche, and like I said, the colors- turquoise, orange, pinks, are there also. What else do I look for to make sure it’s a 60’s piece.
Thanks in advance dear,
Eilee
Hi Eileen @Ms.CrystalShip! I can't tell you much unless I see a photo of the hallmark itself, but I do believe if there are no copyright marks accompanying it and if the piece isn't too perfect, you should be seeing the real deal! Good luck!
Thank you Sammy...
You’re a dear!
Early Kenneth jay Lane is awesome. Reading his book, he was so creative! Looking forward to your future posts. Best, Maureen
