One is a standard stool for bench work and the other is a swivel. You can adjust the height on the swivel too. Got these at the flea market a couple of weeks back.

I can't say I ever saw them in the 50's but I saw and sat on many of them during the 60's. The dam things just kept living on and on. They were sure well built.
