I scored these this past summer, forgot to show them here. Bought them from the same woman who used to clean out old homes in PA. The smaller document box is older than the small blanket chest. She told me the boxes were given as gifts to bride. She then painted on them different pictures related and family symbols. I don't know if it is true but I enjoy the boxes.

I would say that the top smaller box has original painting and that the lower larger one was painted recently. The top one is highly collectible and desirable trunk and with the original painting on it it is really superb!! Looks to be mid 1800's or thereabouts. Great find!!!
