It's plastic. Sad because elephants are killed everyday for ivory, yet the general public cannot distinguish it from plastic.

This piece it was from a Woman that pass last year and the family that is in Japan ask me to sell all her things because they can not take to Japan.

      I don't understand you commentary.
I don't know any about Antique, or Ivory. Yes, I am General Public, that is the reason I am asking. I thought there was nothing wrong with that.

I am not asking anything on this place. It is not HELPING. Sorry if I offended you with my ignorant question.

I hope it is really old as it's stunning it has so much detail in it & that is what I just see in the photo I hope you get it worked out

There is nothing wrong with you or your question. You called it ivory, I told you it was plastic. (My commentary was just that, commentary. It wasn't directed at YOU).

I'm with TubeAmp on material! Knowing material is very important in description of a piece...
The RHPP test would say... (red hot pin poke!)
      This is called an Okimono.

Same here, but read carefully description, seller doesn't know about it and settled his price from a "similar subject" which went at auction... man made material too, certainly not bone...

kyratango and oldandsilly, thank you both for helping this poster with your wonderful information and knowledge which you so generously shared and in such a kind and thoughtful manner. I learned a lot from you both in those links and your discussion. You are both assets to this site. :)

Kyratango, I would not do a RHPP on ivory one its not needed there are plenty of visual clues to tell if something is ivory or bone. This site will help id real or fake ivory . http://www.realorrepro.com/article/Ivory-genuine-fake--confusing

@Grendel: agree with you, RHPP is the ultimate test.
