This antique stamp is one of a kind in size as well as detail. Likely 19th century or earlier and based on some research I've found that the engraved seal is what's called a ecclesiastical heraldry, or basically a priest coat of arms. It most likely belonged to a priest at one time. Don't know the authenticity of the metal and the small stones garnering it but I'm pretty sure the main carved stone is citrine. The emphasis is on HUGE stone. Even for citrine this is really big. Haven't seen anything for sale anywhere this big. Don't have exact size of stone but likely anywhere between 200-250 carats. The eagle comes on and off. Weighs 9.5 ounces total and stands over 4 inches tall when eagle is erected.

      Got appraisal at valuemystuff.com

      Guarantee line
A silver-gilt gem set desk seal

      Description
The large oval citrine matrix intaglio cut with the arms of a Catholic Bishop or Cardinal above the motto 'OMNIA OMNIBUS', within a mount of laurel and stiff leaves, the handle cast as a displayed eagle on a deep spreading plinth with bands of flowers set with various gem stones.

      Date
      Mid 19th century

      Height
      4inches

      Depth
      2inches

      Length
      2.25inches

      Extra Notes
It is not easy to be sure but the arms suggest that this is perhaps German or English where there was a fashion for this type of gem-set desk wares in the 1840's and 1850's.

I am pretty sure that this is silver-gilt with the distinctly white colour of the probably silver base showing through, particularly on parts of the eagle and the matrix mount. The gems are more decorative than especially valuable in their own right, but this makes a very handsome cabinet object.

      Value
      Auction value:
      $1,500 - $2,000
