Found among family photo's. John was a circuit riding preacher. Pictured with his family. Just love this photo. A real Ox Cart pulled by a small ox or cow? The sign says Homeward Bound! He is even holding a pistol & a deer head.

You may be right. Think all oxens had horns.
The ears do droop at bit far down for a cow.
