FRENCH DODECAHEDRON Burl Wood Decorative Box 1940s

I bought this at an estate sale in Dallas for five dollars. Inside the box were 3 BIC lighter shells. I assumed that at this point it was a tobacco box, Used to keep lighters in on a coffee table. However upon further research I came across the information below about this unique box. It measures 6 inches round . It has a hinged top, The inside has a felt lined bottom. Beautifully made. Would love to know more about this item.
