A friend of mine recently passed away and a few friends were goiung thru her belongings deciding what to give away and what to throw away , we came upon a old suitcase and this pail was delicately wrapped up in towels and locked away in her bedroom , It made of copper and its hammered copper . the top has a opening of 4.5 inches, the bottom is flared out to 5.5 to 6 inches , it looks very old . It hold a gallon of water . The chain is 14 inches long , I have spent hours looking up similar pot and i have never found anything like it, Patty my friend who passed must have taken the history of the pail to her grave , So in closing this is my remembrance to her , I have it hanging in my kitchen and every time i look at it i think some day we will find the answers of what it is or where it came from, but until than it is my little secret

Hi, I believe it is a calaro da fei lome, a caldron. I have seen this unique shape in the book Scappi's Opera 1570. it is most likely French or Spanish. I have a medieval kitchen based on the medieval kitchen in this book and I have not come across a picture of that particular pot while doing research. You are very lucky, do go ahead an use it, I would in a second.

Thanks Jean, here are some photos of my SCA Field Kitchen on Pinterest. I also do some blacksmithing, wattle fences for my kitchen too. The little medieval house on wheels is tossed in there for good measure. Thank you for asking, I seldom get a chance to share.
