Something I found amongst my grand dads war memories...
It looks like it had something sharp fall on it because there is a large cut & I am not able to open it....It looks like gold underneath the dirty exterior....

I don't think gold turns to such a color, so the case may just be brass or perhaps was gold plated brass at one time. Best to take it to a jeweler who specializes in watches and get another opinion.
