i'm not sure what these things are made of. they are kind of like plastic, but they have a distinctive carved texture to them. could they be bone? each is bowed - boat-shaped, not flat. the case is laquer, but not a great quality laquer.

If it is very light it is probably plastic.
the whole thing is rather heavy, but the panels might be plastic, but carved? it's kind of odd. i'll try to get some pics of just a panel.
