This is a very nice example of a Civil War CDV. The solider in the pose seem be in the cavalry judging from his high top boots. Looking closer he seems to have a glass eye or possibly a bad eye, visible is a very small portion of what seems to be be an oval US buckle. There is no back mark, but the tax stamp help to date this to Nov 1864. Photograph by J.H. Phillips, cor, Third st, and Washington ave, St Louis.

He looks to be a little cross eyed.

      The tall boots are GREAT!

He is wearing a nine button frock coat. The oval buckle and frock are more typical of an infantryman.

I really like these tax stamped images that allow specific dating.
