For lack of another term, this piece seems to fit with what I call Japanese Export glass. It is unmarked but I'm reasonably sure this is of Japanese origin. Information about this sort of glass is just beginning to be gathered. I suspect that this piece is pre-WWII but would love to hear other opinions.

This spatter glass bud vase has a complex shape that goes from round to hexagonal and back to round. It stands just under 6" (15 cm) tall with a diameter at top (and bottom) of around 2 1/4" (5.5 cm).

Can't help with this one at all Artfoot. I know little about the pre war glass, although the cut rim is not very Japanese, even for their Taisho/early Showa glass.

Thanks racer - your info about the rims is well worth my consideration. I will definitely keep an open mind about the origin of this piece.

I keep thinking about this piece and am much less certain about it being of Japanese origin. I tend to think now that it is possibly Funk Bros. (Germany).

Harry I just revisited this and have to say that my general idea about Japan and pre war glass and rim finish has changed (mainly thanks to you!) That's a good thing, it doesn't help in IDing glass to have pre conceptions.
I might have said before that we don't see much pre war Japanese glass here in Aus and what I have seen was always fire polished. I now think that may be more due to either the maker, or how early or late it is. I've recently acquired some older glass that is definitely Japanese and has a cut rim. I'll post them soon.
Thanks for making me more aware and less set in thought. Thanks also for comparing Japanese glass to Czech glass. Another of my ignorant areas so I don't have any datum from which I can measure the likelihood of something being Czech or Japanese.
