I went to a little store today and found these vases. I am drawn to Asian porcelain and have found similar ones in the past. The vases were marked 50% off and I could not leave them there, so I paid $2.50 a vase! Does anyone know mark or any info on these? They are very very thin and exquisite

These are modern Republic Period vases, they are still very nice.
    3. Mrstyndall Mrstyndall, 8 years ago
Kyratiop, what date range would that be?
    4. Canberraman, 8 years ago
These are called egg shell vases but they weren't made from the republic period, they were made between 1977 and 1979. The mark says made in Jingde Town China with two border lines corresponding to the period identified.

In order to determine the value you would need to see if these were made by a famous artist or just an un-named worker. The Chinese writing on the other side of these vases should tell you that. Even if they were made by an un-named worker there vases should be worth at least $250 each nowadays. They will be worth a lot more if they were made by a famous artist. Hope that helps.

Canberraman, thanks for that info. I will try this afternoon to see if I can get a Picture of the writing on vase to see if it's someone known. If you can read it, please let me know. I know nothing about Chinese markings or reading them. Thanks so much!!

Canberraman , only one vase had the writing on the side. The other vase also has a different mark on bottom

Mrstyndall, the literal meaning of the four characters says birds singing and flowers radiate their fragrance, but otherwise characterising a fine spring day. If you can show the other marking I can look up the period for you.

These vases were export porcelains to generate foreign currency to help build up China's economies before China opened its door for economic reform. They are finely made and were not available within China at the time. As the Chinese are so rich today and older porcelains are getting more expensive, the Chinese are turning their eyes on these finely made export items to include in their collection. If I were you I will keep them. Their value will go up in time for sure.

I did not see any other marks on them, but this first pic and what was underneath

Lookup Chinese eggshell porcelains on Google you will see how much they sell for at stores or auctions today. The 567 porcelains (50's, 60's and 70's) are catching up in price!

But you said in your earlier post that there was a different mark on the other vase?
    11. Mrstyndall Mrstyndall, 8 years ago
On the bottom of the other vase was a different Mark but I did not find any markings on the vase itself
    12. Mrstyndall Mrstyndall, 8 years ago
Could the maker possibly be on the box that they came in
    13. Canberraman, 8 years ago
I see, if you post that mark here I can lookup the period for you. The Chinese changed the markings many many time during the 50's and 80's, your other vase could be an earlier piece.

I just did, let me know if pic is clear enough.
    15. Canberraman, 8 years ago
No I don't think the box will have the maker's name so they would have been made by an unknown artist. The writing on the boxes says famous Chinese porcelain by the way.
    16. Canberraman, 8 years ago
Okay, the marking on the two vases were at the same time period, one says made in Jingde Town and the other says made in Jingde Town China. As they all have double border lines they were made between 1977 and 1979.
