    This is our current furnace. Its extremely huge! And im not sure if it's the original. . I would guess that it is. It used to be coal.there is a coal shoot and whole room that is black walls and lots of left over coal in the rafters. Our house was built in 1849. Its cast iron made in Utica New York. We had it looked over its in very good working order.but if we had to replace it. The cost would be $20,000.. we were quoted.. don't plan on replacing that any time soon! It heats house almost too good.

      Awesome . I love the old monster. We have an old cookstove in our kitchen 1920s . I feed with wood , that I cut ,haul split etc, and still I love it.

      I love this boiler! I really like radiator heat. Nice place to set your wet clothes. Or to keep your coffee warm. Or really cold days. I'll set a blanket. And sit on top of one and look out the window. . And is not pushed air blowing dust everywhere.

      I love the story of this one, and the ones shared in comments as well.
      When I was very young, my mom owned and operated a three story hotel/lounge in Apalachicola Fl. The radiators were in every room, but had long been taken out of use and the boiler was gone. But I remember the boiler room had its own building attached from the second floor. I would guess it was not much larger than this one considering how large your house is. I haven't thought of that building in forever, thanks for the memory:~}}

      Thank you! For sharing your memory with me! And your kind words! We try to make it to Florida every year for spring break. My guys parents live there in winter. But this year we can't make it with moving and all. . But we need our boiler more here than there! We get some crazy weather. Like almost 200 inches of snow this year!

      Well, it's been modified many times, but so has our own furnace from the '40s.
      That you're still using fuses and fabric-wrapped cords in it, I'd say that you'll want a smoke detector nearby.
      Your house must have been pretty fancy even 90 years ago.

      Thank you Spirit Bear! Yes im sure it's been modified many times! And yes we still have much of the old electrical. And we do have smoke detectors and carbon monoxide near by. The city is sticklers for those.

      Thank you Antiquerose! I plan to keep it as it is, as long as we're here! Kinda reminds me of the one they threw Freddy Kruger into! LOL

      You are so welcome!
      That's what is so great about old stuff, the memories they inspire.
      I hope 200 was a mistype....lol. As a native Floridian, just the thought of that much snow makes me cold. But now I understand why you need such a large home, cold weather inspires babies....lol

      Ha! No babies for me thank you! LOL and no we get more snow then I've ever seen. Im new here! I thought i got snow in Michigan. I've never seen snow like this! I thought it was weird October 30th everyone put on spiked snow tires! Now i know why. I've had a pulled shoulder all winter from the snow. Even having a snow blower is tough. On top i decided to put my room on the 3rd floor. So my legs hurt too! Damn forgot something on the first floor. .it's a real struggle if your gonna go get it or not! I have an elevator. But it only goes down to the basement. . Then this heat gets so hot, i have to shut it off on nice days. I shut it off on the boiler itself. So that is 4 flights of stairs. . Rant over*
