This was another piece which was being thrown away as the home of a deceased artist was being readied for sale. It speaks volumes about the state of the over heated real estate market around here. My friend is cleaning out the house and saved it for me along w/ a bunch of other things. this weighs a ton! i think it's by a well-known sculptor from Africa. Not sure which country though... anyone recognize it?

thank you Manikin! it is a beautiful piece and looks amazing in my garden. i just got another one - much smaller and made by a different sculptor from the same home.

      Is it soapstone ?
    5. ho2cultcha ho2cultcha, 9 years ago
it is harder than soapstone. i haven't inspected it carefully enough yet. the thing is so darn heavy and hard to move.

i think it's a very hard serpentine - which is related to soapstone.
