A recent buy of a Weller pottery vase/ jardiniere with an incised WELLER on the outer edge of the bottom.
that I cannot identify. It is for sure Weller, but other than that I don't know the pattern, if there ever was one. Measures 7.5 inches high and 4.5 inches across the opening. When I bought it, it had a semi-pink (photo 3) looking interior and was very dirty. After cleaning the pink insides and all the dirt, I had a clean semi-white interior. It's like no other piece of Weller that I've ever encountered.

      Welcome to CW bhamdaniel,
Other then the mark what makes you sure that it's Weller? The pottery doesn't seam correct, the edge mark, isn't right either, and the bottom glazing doesn't seam right.
I like the piece, and the blended drip glaze, but I'm not so sure it is Weller Pottery. Maybe art.pottery, will stop by and know, or artfoot, might too, but I need convincing! :^D Thanks for your post, and I hope we find out one way or another! :^)

Weller can be rather variable and without actually holding the piece, I would hesitate to say it is not Weller, but there are inconsistencies. More contrast on the mark might help in the identification but I can't tell from the picture. They did use a similar hand-incised mark in the late 1920s. "One-offs" are not unheard of with Weller. I think I'll pass the buck to art.pottery for this one.

Before I posted this mystery Weller piece, I had it identified as Weller by a very well known art pottery dealer in Ohio. He knew almost at once that it is a Weller piece. Before I paid for an appraisal I wanted to find-out if anyone else might know the pattern, IF there was one. Weller produced any number of vases that were not of some named pattern. This piece is fairly heavy in weight and the Weller mark is indeed one used at Weller. I was told that a mark like this one on the outer rim of the base was not unheard of; but I've never seen any other Weller piece with the Weller inscribed by hand on an outer edge like this one.

Check Weller “Nile” for similar glaze. I agree, base looks wrong and the mark isn’t what I’d expect on a piece from the Nile line.

Yes art.pottery, the Weller Nile or Malachite Ware is the closest, glaze to the piece here, but again that mark is odd to me too, but I'm no expert, I've just seen a lot of Weller Pottery, and marks! :^)

Well, thanks all. After viewing several photos of the underside of various Nile pieces, I feel that mine is a Weller Nile piece. So, I'll leave it unless I or anyone else convinces me otherwise. Special thanks to billretirecoll and art.pottery.
