Jack Northrop went through building at least 3 seperate aviation firms between 1928 and 1938. This plaque is a casting of his first real company logo used at company #1 from 1928-1931 located in El Segundo, California. This sample was found at an estate sale close by the area. Item was sand cast aluminum and in fairly rough shape. It was restored earlier this year for a private collection. Regards, Tom Sanders (SANDMAN OVERHAUL)

Nice logo. We had a Northrop Grumman defense plant here on LI for yrs that built many war planes

Ah yes, the great "Iron Works" of Grumman. Their WW2 airplanes were referred to as being produced by the Grumman Iron Works because of their survivability. Lots of great aircraft companies in the NE. Grumman, Republic, Curtiss, Vought, Sikorsky and even Brewster, Fleet, with others. Long Island literally buzzed with aviation and pilots cruising over the beaches in the summer.
