Please Help on Identification, my Son found this metal detecting. My first impression was rev war, however, that I am not positive.

I think I have heard this uncommon design called a" broken neck chicken". The eagle wasn't adopted until 1782, so not used in the Revolution. I searched some with no luck and so will have to rely on my many yrs. of collecting antique guns etc.. I believe, 1800-1850. That would include the Mexican War & the War of 1812. Being stamped, it seems a bit weak for military acceptance of that era. Bon chance !

Buckle depicts patriotic eagle, these thin two part plates were used for ceremonial purposes only by the militias and some were bought by individuals for personal use. The star count is probably artistic and not symbolic and is similar to many officer buttons of the period. Buckle is constructed of thin stamped brass, it would have the capability of holding only a light cloth sash. This one bears a motif similar to the Guard or Artillery buttons of New York, and may have been issued to one of those units. Hello All, I found the same buckle as Suasponte on 9/03/2021 on a hydraulic gold mine in norther california. On 12/3/2021 I found its companion about 100' away. Your photo is of the identical piece as mine and after much research I have not seen another like it. I found this site while trying to identify my find. I'll attempt to make a new post with pictures. Thanks!
