The measurements are 18 x 7.5 x 1. The only markings are “No 6” on the bottom. I would love any info you could share. Can’t find a thing on the internet.

You didn't say, but it looks like cast iron... an old stove part perhaps? It looks like a lid for a mailbox too... but cast iron mailbox...I dunno!
Try researching griddle gate. I believe that is what this was called.
maybe a lid for an oval/oblong dutch oven; that deep type of deep lid was fairly common for holding coals for campfire cooking.
Looks like it went to a cast iron cook stove where you would take out the 2 round stove tops and middle divider and drop that in that spot.??
yougottahavestuff that is correct that is where it goes. It is a griddle gate or formally called a double griddle gate because it replaces two burner plates when in use. The bottom of it where it is formed to fit is why it was called a gate. They are not at all common and most were made late 1800's.
I question why anyone would associate this with a sad iron. Breakfast was cooked in these. Fancier ones had a pour spout to drain off bacon grease etc. Sad irons sat right on the stove top and were transferred to a trivet as needed. Must be city raised youngsters in here.
