Picked this 1890's all Leather Barrel top Trunk today. Measures in at 34 L x 19D x 28T. No maker name. Nice Eastlake lock (not sure who produced them). A rarity for certain,... as but for a factory nail blip from the installation of the lid stay, the leather is perfect on all sides, with no tears, rips or cracks,. After seeing all sides in the ad photos, I was disappointed at first though, as it looked like the little white spot on the front of the lid was a tear that was re-glued ....always that one tear in the leather that ruins your perfect hand, but in person surprisingly it was simply a water mark thus leaving all leather unmarred...Bonus! The hardware on this piece is a blend of die-cast and tin. The interior is linen & complete with tray and layout. As well the handles are sound, so that's always handy to have just for transit. Overall its a great starter foundation for a future beauty & 20 minutes from home didn't hurt either.

Hey Tom, Thought this fine trunk would be a good place to leave some history of C.A. Taylor and his patent images from 1860 through 1888. It has taken me quite some time to find them.He was one of the most influential trunk men of his time.

A note: For me a picture has always been worth a thousand words. I only save the patent images. If I need the full description (All those many words) of that patent. The picture always provide me the reference tools that I need to find that info. The Inventor's name, Item name ,date & most important the patent Number . I just search the (Patent sitemap) along with the year. This way I won't need a computer the size of NASA to store all the piles I collect, hope it all posts Enjoy!

Many times trunk patents and infringements on those patents
ended up in court. Those court cases and decisions rendered, shed light on the history of trunk makers. It is a long read but has many insights.

Tom 3 additional C.A. Taylor patents to go with the ones above.Enjoy!
