My dad and grandfather were fishing up around Bridgeton, Maine, in the early 40's, when they found the remains of an old building beside a stream. The mill wheel was in two pieces. They hauled the pieces back to the car, and put this together in the barn. A few years later, my unappreciative grandmother painted it green. My mom found it in the barn, stripped the paint, and used a floor finish to coat it.( no money in the early 50's)

Can you tell me the diameter of the wheel? I have a similar wheel, and thought about a table, was going to use wheel as a top but I like this idea better because I wouldn`t need a piece of glass. Nice re purpose by your dad and grandpa!!

Inside diameter is 25 3/4", outside diameter is 28". My father called the table top 'African Mahogany '

Thanks! would agree on the mahogany, do you know if the wheel was stained, it looks like it matches nicely? Thanks again!

The inside of the wheel appears to have been painted black. The outside I believe was shellacked, and when rescued from my grandmother's barn, stripped and coated with a floor finish in the early 50's. Other than an occasional cleaning with Murphy's, and wax or polish, hasn't been touched since.

Thanks for all the info! No need for more pics, I have the idea, now all I need is the right wood for the top and base and warmer weather to work in my shop! Thanks again! Rob
