A seller on Etsy offered a few twisted glass “vintage beads from Japan” a few months ago.
I thought they were beautiful and I just had to have them.

They happened to be the perfect match for a “Lauren Conrad” enamel and rhinestone sunflower brooch I already had, so before long, I had made new necklace and earring set for myself.

The Etsy site is called “BonkersForBeads” and I did note that the seller has a few other twisted glass vintage beads from Japan and West Germany.....so, I thought Elizabethan’s beads might also be from one of those countries.
If she sees my post, I hope it helps her track down hers.

What a gorgeous creation using the yellow twisted beads and sunflower motif - Very Nice! Looks great, plus the earrings.

I am not a fan of that etsy seller. I bought several times - once they lost my order (the same item showed up a few weeks later on the website but they didn't offer it to me) and the 2nd time items were not same color as they were photographed and not really vintage, but I couldn't get my money back. Just my experience, there are great items but sadly not for me.

Thanks - interesting info to keep in mind. I’ve only had 1 issue with a seller and that was on eBay- the woman listed beads as “glass” and “silver” but the “glass” bead was glass seed beads glued into a wooden bead and the “silver” beads were silver-colored plastic beads....it’s funny now but at the time, it was like trying to communicate with someone from another planet. I marked it up as “a lesson learned“.

Oh, the colors are so beautiful and vibrant! You did a wonderful job in your design, to take loose beads and turn them into something lovely such as this necklace!

Patricia, I also wanted to answer your question about pierced earrings vs. clip- on’s.
The majority of the jewelry posted here on “Vintage Costume Jewelry” dates from mid- century, with some postings as early as 1930’s. 1980’s is where, IMHO, “vintage” stops. Anything from 1990’s is “iffy” to be considered as “vintage”. Jewelry over 100 years old is considered “antique”. I know you know all this, just a short prelude & my opinion.
Pierced earrings have been around for 1000’s of years, found in ancient burial sites, and not just woman, men also adorned their ears. Earrings for non- pierced ears just didn’t exist. In the Victorian Age, it was considered “barbaric” & “uncouth” to inflict harm to one’s body...putting holes in one’s ears. It wasn’t until the early 20th century, that a solution was found to the wearing of earrings without harming the ears. “Screw- back” earrings- circa 1894 and “clip-on’s” 1934 ( 1930’s - 1970’s). In the 60’s & 70’s, pierced earrings came back into the scene. So you see, this is the reason why you see so many clip- on’s here, it’s the “vintage” time frame we collect.
Hope I helped a little in explaining & answered your question :)

Thank you so much for the explanation about why almost no pierced earrings are seen here.
I did know that most, if not all, posted here are vintage and the time frames of “vintage” and”antique” but that was truly enlightening information about the Victorian’s reason for abstaining from piercing.

I knew there must be some logical reason for the lack of earrings with posts.
Thank you for taking the time to explain it- you are so kind.
