This ceramic teapot is 3.75" high x 5.75" in diameter and holds 21 ounces of fluid. It is brand new, modern manufacture. It includes a single cup, bamboo teapot handle, strainer and tomobako, similar to cast irons sets.

I was surfing an auction site and saw this teapot and immediately thought it was cast iron but was puzzled by the bamboo handle. I've never seen a bamboo handle on a cast iron teapot before. I did some quick image surfing and could not find another so came back to the auction and actually read the details this time and finally realized it is made of ceramic, not cast iron. !!! It is a cute idea and unique. I contacted the seller and they said the pieces are not marked and they did not know who made it.

Armed this information, I did another web search and found a site that is selling these minus the tomobako. I contacted the seller and they said these come from Iga, Japan. Iga is famous for making tea ware from two main kilns, Iga and Shikaraki. I asked the seller if they had tomobako for the tea sets they were selling and they said that they were not allowed to import any wooden objects for fear of introducing pests and that they advise against using cast iron teapots as they corrode, even if lined with enamel (!?!). Right. Anyway, if anyone is interested in acquiring one of these minus the tomobako, let me know and I will post the link to their site.

I made an offer for the one on the auction site and it was accepted.

Very clever. I love the glaze, particularly on plain surfaces like the inside of the cup.

Yeah the inside looks kind of like an oil spot finish Karen.

      Thanks aura and Karen!
