Awesome Charlie McCarthy ventriloquist's doll my husband just bought for me. He has a date of 1968 on his neck, and that is officially all I know about him. ;)

Does he say Juro Novelty Co?

I have the Mortimer Snerd from that same year. You are very lucky he has his monocle, but missing his bow tie. He's in really good shape!

Yeah he says juro. I was wondering about the bow tie...under his lapel is what resembles a white bow tie. I was under the impression they were black? Mortimer Snerd?! Awesome!

No it's white for sure. I got Mortimer when I was twelve and practiced night and day. I still have him and my kids to this day are afraid of him

LOL!! See I collect things that are "creepy" or macabre. My friends are already all terrified of Charlie. It's excellent. I went ahead and posted a pic of his bowtie. He is, however, missing a shoe. The woman who sold him thought he was missing his monocle, but as I was inspecting him I found it in his sleeve. Did he have a top hat as well??

Yes he did. Usually it's the monocle that got lost first. If you're keeping him it's no big thing. I like creepy too. I call my stuff early ugly.

Early ugly....I like it. The store my husband bought it from didn't know much about him. Whoever owned him first took great care to make sure the monocle didn't get lost, it was pinned in some lining in the coat. Its rather unfortunate about the shoe, but the missing pieces dont take anything away from the doll. I like him. =D

Ive been terrified of Charlie and dummies like him since I was little and watched that Twilight Zone episode. Very cool though!

VikingFan82, I'm terrified of them as well. But I'm weird, I love being scared. My house is full of scary stuff

Classic ventriloquist doll! These were usually the ones that came to life in movies and in the Twilight Zone and killed people. I wish ventriloquists still used these wise cracking dolls in their shows, but they have really vanished for good. Too bad. GREAT find though, and nice gift from your husband.
