This is a wire handled claw hammer that my father had. I don’t know if it was a toy hammer. I have not seen one like it. He was born in 1932 and said that he had always had it. Anyone have any ideas on this?

When I was younger in school we made small hammers similar to this. Used to knock slag off of welds. Mine didn't have a twisted handle, but similar ...I'll see if I still have it.
dav2no1 is talking about a slag hammer which this isn't. Without seeing the actual claw it is difficult to say, but it looks like an antique upholstery hammer
