Hi I bought this painting last year I just found a signature in left corner in red, but I can’t read it, I would love some help identifying the artist.It has a couple of tears do u think it’s worth getting restored?I have taken it out of its frame to see the signature , I found these but mine doesn’t say limited

I was going to say interesting painting but....then I saw the back and now that changes things. Very difficult to read from your photos. I was able to download and flip it so I could read it...kinda
Windsor & Newton formed in 1832 and changed the art world with their inventions(moist paint, screw top paint tube, etc). I think it say after 1970 they became Windsor & Newton LTD?

If you can make out all the writing on the back, that may help you search and find the information yourself. It appears there's an address in London there?(I can't read it) I saw a mention that they moved just before the war(1938), that may be a clue?
As far as restoration..I think you need to establish authenticity and provenance first. As long as you keep it safe, the repairs can be done later. If the value dictates that.
I only did a quick search, I'm sure there's more information out there. Google is your friend(duck duck go is bettter).

Yes, very much. I started to say it's interesting but often very difficult to figure out who or when some pieces were done. But the back could be your clue to finding that out.
I have a lot of art. I've always believed that you buy what you like. There's always that chance you may find something of value, but rare. I have a few paintings that were done by famous artists, but aren't of much value. On the other hand I have art that is done by artists I don't know who they are, but I still enjoy them.
Hopefully you find some information on your piece and definitely update us.

this is an 38 rathbone place london, bit though to date , but the word limited is out between under the word newton , something like 1850-1870, sampling is to small
it is a supplier so the actual painting could be later, and it is an supplier so the dispersion could be wide i saw one in Illkirch Grafestade and Antwerpen , so it is not specially constricted to the UK
If you like the piece much , you have to restore it, it is a nice painting, there is a rupture and a trough and trough , and you the gesso for just one painting
and the point it you have to clean it , quite a lot of work and money,
i believe Aviva Burnstock from the Courthald Institute got the database , but i am not sure

In 1939 they moved, so that early address helps verify it was earlier than that...

some institutes are gatherers for databanks for Institutes , like Tate Coutthard, Smitsonian , Asian art Research etc
and probably the old researcher are probably dead , probably Courthald knows , but not the painter likely
nowadays ( at least me ) we don,t use books anymore because there are a lot of books on one flashdrive
but sometimes there are rights on the flashdrive, for me it is a bit different , because i got an databank , and got rights on it, but it is obsolete know
but i can,t swap data all the time for let,s say the probably not so precious stuff , because it are service rendered ( if it are not friends)
i like to help people , but i don,t want to spend to much money on data mining

Waki is the best, very knowledgeable. Not always the easiest to understand, but very informative.
And he says he doesn't want to spend much time data mining, but I see him post additional information on posts that are 5 and 7 years old. I don't know how he even remembers these posts.
