Does anyone recognize this long and narrow hanging box? look at the way the brass screen on the bottom is actually woven throught the wood. that's a difficult way to do it. i believe the wood is redwood and all the very carefully placed nails are brass and rounded top. The wire in the mesh on the bottom also appears to be brass. any info appreciated.
Hey Pete, what are the measurements of the box and is that stamp at the bottom Chinese? Maybe for holding Long Matchsticks or Incents! :^D
Thanks for showing, Bill :^)
Something like this Matchstick box:

I was thinking a fireplace matchstick caddy too, until I saw that mesh bottom -- it *certainly* wouldn't hold matches...??? :-) Now, I'm wondering if it could be a bird or critter feeder...???
Thank you Bill, TallCakes and Anything. that last one you show does have the screen on the bottom. it's pretty mysterious. a whole lot of effort went into making that screen. The whole piece is so well made and proportioned. the entire box is 15 inches high and the box itself is 8 inches high.
i can't tell what that stamp is. i didn't even see it till i was looking at the photos.
