Yesterday there was an auction at an auction house that my wife and I often frequent. After looking at the items on a popular internet channel, I saw nothing to interest me. evidently my wife did, because she wanted to attend the sale. I had a restoration project going on and I wanted to stay home and work on it.
My wife said she was going to go to the sale because of the item that is shown here. She said that this bowl, or milk pan, as it is called, was at an antique store that we visited in Indiana some years ago and she hasn't seen one since, until now. She wanted to look at it and bid on it "if the price is right". Well, she went and won the bid , so, here it is in our dining room.
It is a very old style of stoneware that is brownish gray and appears rather grainy, but it really isn't, it just looks that way. It has a small chip next to the spout, something acceptable to us considering its age.
It has several blue decorations around the bowl which is approx. 12" in diameter and about 5" deep.
I thought that she might have spent a little too much for it, well, she soon shown me an internet photo of a similar milk pan that had a much larger chip along with a crack and the price was over twice the amount then what she paid for it.
It will add to our collection of other stoneware items.
