March is a great month if you like glass in NZ, Whanganui puts on it's annual "Artists Open Studios" event and this year there were 86 of them.
Greg Swinburnes work I have posted before. With these he makes a glass tube shaped bottle and then gets to work with his diamond saws and polishing gear. Looking around his studio I asked if he had pattens to use when cutting but no he does them free hand.
How long you may ask, about 10-15 minutes for one cut.
He said it was a bit distracting when visitors popped through the door and started conversations expecting him to give answers while half way through one.....can't print what he said :)
This colour is called saffron and Greg calls these pieces "Offerings"
The Offering sculptures originally had the subtitle “sculpture for a zen garden”
this one is 350mm tall.
