This was a super find at the bi-monthly antiques fair last weekend!
I'd been all around the stalls a couple of times over, & this was spotted on a stall I'd overlooked.
The vase is made from a double cased mother of pearl type opaline glass with an unusual surface treatment that presents a sparkling appearance & has a subtle texture. It looks & feels like a percentage of the surface has been randomly masked off from receiving the satin finish - it seems like a 50/50 mix of glossy & satin in an almost peloton like pattern. In a way it acts to further highlight the iridescence.
It measures 17.5 cm tall, 3 cm across the top rim, & 5 cm across the base.
The form is also a little unusual, a conical shape with a lobed & pleated vertical pattern. The silver plate top is odd in that it doesn't extend over the edge of the top rim, rather just sits around the top like a ring.
Bohemian origin, circa 1900. Maybe Kralik?
