Today, I would like to present a small vase that does not normally attract much attention. At first glance, it could be mistaken for a Loetz vase with the Nautilus decor. However, it was manufactured by the Elisabeth glass factory, also known as Pallme-Koenig (PK).
Most glass collectors associate the Elisabeth glassworks with vases and other objects featuring prominent glass threads. It is also known for its expressive shapes with multiple pinched and vegetatively deformed rims.
This vase shows a completely different side to the glassworks' design activities: classic shaping and a martelé decor with meandering sculptural glass threads. The applications are again typical of PK, but the base glass with the martelé ground is rather an exception in the canon of Pallme-Koenig's decors. There seem to be very few PK glasses with a martelé surface. A characteristic feature of the Elisabeth glassworks is the application around the rim, something that does not occur at Loetz.
If one compares the vase with the Loetz Nautilus decor (fourth picture), one notices a certain coarseness compared to the more filigree applications at Loetz. Loetz instead placed a glass thread around the rim or dispensed with any application on the rim altogether. Size: 12 cm.
