Hello everyone!!
Another of my cast iron dog doorstops is this antique cast iron Malamute doorstop. While this one was listed as a Samoyed, I believe it fits more of the design of a Malamute.
This one was made in the early 1900's and is quite rare in the world of doorstops. I've only seen a few others besides this one. I love the design of this one. I'm not sure which foundry cast this one, but it's nicely cast. It's a two piece design held together with a single bolt. It still retains a large portion of it original polychrome paint.
When I took ownership of this one, it had a thick coat of black paint and a coat of tan paint under the black (shown in pic #4). I was able to carefully remove the two top coats of paint to expose the original white polychrome paint. This one measures 9" long, 8 1/2" tall and weighs 8lbs 6oz.
Thanks very much for taking time to stop in for a look!!
Scott

Wonderful Samoyed doorstop, they're such beautiful dogs & the body shape here is totally realistic
Wow, Scott—what a beautiful find! I can’t believe how well the original paint held up under all those layers. You did an amazing job restoring it https://geometry-free.com. The detail on the Samoyed is really charming, and the weight alone shows the quality. Thanks for sharing this piece of history!
Looks great now Scott
Jenni,
Thanks very much! I've never actually seen a Samoyed, other than photos, but they're beautiful dogs indeed!!
sabelline,
Thank you so very much, you're so very kind!!! The removal of the layers of paint is a painstaking task, but well worth the effort.
Dave,
Thanks very much!!! I guess I should add a photo of what he looked like before the paint removal.
