A rare vintage MacKenzie-Childs rattan basket from the early Victoria & Richard MacKenzie-Childs era.
This basket features woven rattan with bentwood banding, pedestal base and a brass-tone lid mount. On the lid, there is a green glass finial with a rose insert. The basket includes its original plaid fabric rosette accent around the finial. A glass, bowl made in France, sits nicely inside to hold a favorite dessert.
This basket was purchased through the Victoria and Richard Mackenzie site as part of their private collection (Order # 1928 Small Rattan Basket with Lid). V&R Emprise Thank you for your order as well as your patience. Your order is packed and will ship out tomorrow. Thank you so much. Have a wonderful day (March 31, 2026).

They did sell some of these with Mackenzie-Child's identification plaques in the early days of their company.
MacKenzie-Childs was founded in 1983 by Victoria and Richard MacKenzie-Childs in Aurora, New York. Two of these baskets were described as a “Grapefruit Basket and Bun Basket,” noting the grapefruit basket with a glass bowl insert. This exact style of basket was also featured in a video by Victoria last year.

Victoria and her husband allegedly claimed that their business was stolen from them. This is the headline of an article online:
The Couple Behind Mackenzie-Childs Claim Company Was 'Stolen' from Them, and Now Live on the Last Remaining Ellis Island Ferry.
There are numerous videos on YouTube showing the couple living on the Ellis Island Ferry. Victoria was quite the character. Sadly, she recently passed away.
