An actual branding iron. Looks like a horseshoe with an A inside. When coming up with a ranch name it needs to work with a branding iron. This a small branding iron ar eleven inches long.

What I've been noticing at a local place that houses equines is freeze-brands. I didn't realize it initially, but that's what they must be, because the hair grew back:

In contrast, freeze branding uses a supercooled iron, typically chilled with liquid nitrogen or dry ice, to destroy the pigment-producing cells in the hair follicle. The iron is applied for a short period, resulting in the hair growing back white in the branded area.
