    Western Electric model 302 Telephone

    Manufactured from 1937 - 1955
    Material: Bakelite

Picked this up recently. Needs to be cleaned up some. Glad the site is working again!

Something I noticed right away, was how heavy the F1 headset is. The F1 handset unit contains solid metal magnets, heavy coils, and carbon-granule transmitters rather than lightweight modern digital speakers.

The other interesting feature is the Telephone Exchange Name on the dial. The Telephone Exchange Name identified the switching system to which a telephone was connected, and facilitated the connection of telephone calls between switching systems in different localities.

In this case, LIncoln 3- translates to LI3 which is the number 543. These Telephone Exchange Names made numbers easier for people to remember.

There is a piece of masking tape on the bottom with a date of 09-03-45.

That might have discouraged teenagers from spending endless hours on the phone. Either that, or it might have made them terrifyingly strong. };-)
