This is one of my favorite electric clocks from my art deco collection. This very rare clock was made by the Waltham Watch Company, in Waltham, Massachusetts circa 1935. The clock face is made out of thick, depression green vitrolite with cast aluminum numerals and hands.

Vitrolite is an opaque pigmented glass, and is very fragile just like glass. The material was available in various colors and was used mainly for internal and external tiling and façades of buildings from the 1920s to the 1950s. It is often associated with the streamlining aspects of the Art Deco and Art Moderne movements.

Vitrolite was also used in Art Deco objects such as clocks and cocktail trays. I've also seen this same clock in a red vitrolite version, which is pretty awesome!
