Here is a study of a loopy 3-handle (footed) bowl from about 1920. It was made by Loetz but decorated by a company that did Viennese stylized enamel. This style appears on many different tango pieces.

I like to imagine an artist made this special commission piece for newlyweds...each scene different than the next. It appears the lady loves clothes, each turn of the waltz she miraculously changes before her courting dancer while he remains the same. I like to imagine the artist with a bushy brow pinching his monocle and laboring over every detail with his three-hair brush and a dish of ink... the ribbons, the hairstyles, the stockings and even the floor of the grand room...every detail of some memory captured. He must known the dancer and enjoyed drawing her every last detail.

...The sad thing is the artist was probably a young peasant girl working in a long line of painters. She did only one part of the piece and sent it down the line of the cramped factory for someone else to do their little part. she labored for pennies a day or worked for family. She was taught to do this over and over and over without music, dancing or a hope to dress up and be asked to the ball...

      Just a thought or two:
Put it in the centre of a lazy Suzan and spin.
Does the border on the dress melt away or blend?
Do you see some form of animation sequence?
Is it a form of silhouette animation of a "Tango" in costume?
Is it linked to the early German animators: Max Reinhardt, Paul Wegener and Charlotte "Lotte" Reiniger?

... Just make sure you have someone on the other side of the table ... before attempting this at home :-)

Thoughtful dialogue, jericho. Perhaps seeing the finished item and knowing you contributed, even in some small way, to its creation and its beauty was some consolation - but unfortunately I doubt it. People just trying to survive don't normally find much beauty in the world or have the time for much enjoyment.

Violet- thanx for the words, still... Their legacy is this beauty and I can't imagine I have made any mark on the world
