I found these owls some time ago. Simple, cast iron, bookends. Haven't been able to find any information about them. Does anyone recognize the style?

    Maybe Brutalist style?

Thanks. I wasn't familiar with Brutalist. A good place to start.

Are you sure they are bookends? They look like something used in front of a Fireplace...andirons maybe, which would explain their state. RER(BOB)

No. They are bookends, not andirons. The photo doesn't show the colors much. Lot's of different colors, green, copper, browns, and black.

Interesting, I wonder how many people would scratch up a book shelf using cast iron book ends.
  8. Janes, 12 months ago
They are pretty smooth, but they are heavy.

I think your description, Janes, is as good as any that I could come up with. I think they have a rustic quality that is simple and yet powerful. I always get notices on bookends because of my interest in pixie bookends, so I will keep my eye out for anything similar. But truth is I am stumped. I can now see that they are definitely owls and owls are collected well. They have their own beauty to them which is undeniable. I love them. They would look good on each end of a tall bookcase. I see some brass ones on ebay right now that are designed with bigger eyes but yet they look cheap compared to yours. I hope you get some answer as they are so memorable. How tall are they ?? Wide ?? Could you get some better photos possibly outdoors ??
