From lots of weekend road trips when I lived in the midwest, to flea markets and garage sales, I put together this collection over a number of years before there was Ebay or even cellphones. If you look closely, you can see I organized the boxes by genre, i.e., Space, Spy, Kids Shows, Super Heroes. The one box I still don't have is that darn Jetson's Dome!

Very cool! I had a He-Man one when I was little and recently acquired the same style lunchbox, with thermos. Do yours have the thermoses?

Love em! I can't remember where I found info on the one I have-it's different. I've had it a REALLY long time. It's oval with college banners? all over it. It's green and has handles with a little inside tray that fits inside on top, below the top. Ever run across one like it or close? How many do you have? Great job.

Denebia, I know what you're talking about. It's this one from Ohio Art: http://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/vintage-oval-metal-lunch-box-w-college-pennants and Yes, I have many of the thermoses with each box. :-)

Super collection, still have some, use to have over 5 hundred. Think lunchboxes will always have charm with many, and maybe plastic will get more respect, but know metal will always rule. Love the way they display, just like art. Will talk soon, Phil.
  17. KitschKat KitschKat, 15 months, 11 days ago
Sweet, Phil! Did you sell most of yours? I have a bunch to sell, but I want to keep the ones on the wall. I agree they are like art (that you have to dust!). I like turning them to view the opposite side art, from time to time.

I agree that metal rules! Color is better. Lasts longer if not peed on by evil cats (like mine). :-)

Had hundreds of boxes, but over 60 percent were plastic. Never found Jetsons in my price range. Never owned many you have in your wall collection. KitschKat, Thanks for being smart-fun-inspiring, and stay the way you are. I am shutting up now--my computer is so old my warranty is on Cloth--Ha-Ha. Phil
  19. KitschKat KitschKat, 15 months, 9 days ago
LOL!!! I have the same problem you do. I never could find a Jetsons I could afford. A zillion years ago I was in a tiny town in Iowa. It was so small, it wasn't on a map. From a local antique dealer, I found out about a farmer who had a Jetsons dome. I went to his house and he had just sold it to a guy in NYC a few minutes prior-by phone. No internet back then! So he showed me the box and I just about cried when he told me what he sold it for!
Phil, you crack me up! Cloth? LOL..not on stone tablets?
    ;-)

Like the way you said it was before Ebay and cell phones. This is when it really was treasure hunting because you had to do it all without all the technology we have today. Also it kept inventory high because of the work needed to find what you wanted.
  22. KitschKat KitschKat, 14 months, 9 days ago
Woman34, yes! It really was like treasure hunting. You are so right! We had lists of every town we went through and all the little antique shops, hardware stores, goodwill, etc..we looked everywhere. When we found something it was so exciting! Now I can go on Ebay and find 4 of what I'm searching for for most things. It's great if you want to build a collection, fast, but along with the search, also goes the time in the car, watching the world go by and stopping at a local cafe or diner. I miss doing that. I live on the east coast now and it's just not the same as when I lived in the midwest. Ahhh..the good old days!
