    trunkman

Lovely little rawhide small trunk made around 1828. It has a newspaper lining that dates 1828 from Salem. Nice hand forged handles and lots of brass tacks. I know that there are a few makers of this type and vintage -- anyone able to hazard a guess as to who may have created this? I welcome your input -- and thanks for looking!

Another nice early trunk you have there. I think yours might be Horse hide, hard to tell from pictures. The scallops around the tacks is a very nice detail. Does the lock have a mark on the inside?

      Regards

      Robin

Unfortunately no marks on the inside lock -- horse hair makes good sense..thanks Robin.

Nice one trunkman!! Those hand forged handles are the coolest. What's amazing is that the hair on hide has survived all those hard years. You've got an amazing collection trunkman!! Very nice indeed!!

Maybe more the owner... without a makers label it's really hard to know for sure.

But do you know the town?
    9. southjerseybob southjerseybob, 7 years ago
Maybe that could narrow it down to what state it was made in. If it's American made.
    10. trunkman trunkman, 7 years ago
By the newspaper lining I know the town... but there were many makers making this exact style trunk so there are no certianties for maker.

These are definitely American made principally East Coast New England States.
