I was out garage saling and found this 30" Coca-Cola thermometer. It's missing the glass thermometer but I can replace that. I looked it up in Petretti's 12th edition on page 235 but not quite sure if it is the real deal or not. Would love an opinion from the experts. The lady was asking $15.00 and I took a chance for $10.00. Just want to know if it is real or fantasy.

Should say"Made in USA" on bottom, very small script, & have a 2 digit date on top of scale to be orig. Later ones had "Assembled USA", red back, & code858 on bottom of scale.
I only know this because I have both versions, plus there is also a Mexican version also.
    Hope this helps Michael.

spriteboy: How do you figure this to be a $200 thermometer? It should say Robertson on the bottom/base of the bottle. Even that only makes it a $50 thermometer, since these are very common. If it says Donasco, it was produced in the late 70's, early 80s. I believe yours is a reproduction Michael, because originals say Coke (Cok) on the neck of the bottle, in the green area.

Thank you Ray for stopping by and giving me your expert opinion! Thank you all for taking the time to stop in and give your input! :-) I may just delete the post since it is a reproduction or just leave it for someone else to learn from it and not make the same mistake.

Hey Michael, Ray would be absolutely right on if this was the 17" version, but the 29" thermo did not have the makers name on the bottom, which makes them harder to differentiate between.
  14. TGBWC TGBWC, 1 year ago
pickrknows is right Michael. I didn't even read that this was a 30" (29") version. Still, there are too many repro's out there and tough to tell the difference. Most say "made in USA" right below the base of where the thermometer would be placed. Of course, if this is Canadian, it's anyone's guess. In any case, $10 isn't a bad price.

So, is it not worth even $40.00 because it doesn't have a company name? I have one that is 33" long and I have seen it sell around $50. Is it because it was not made for Coca Cola that makes it not valuable to collectors? I think it is a good buy just for vintage sign collectors. It has "made in USA" at the bottom, and number 41 at the top of thermometer. BTW, hello, all, I am new to the forum, thanks for your patience and reply's in advance, I'm gonna need it!

Wow!! The summer is flying by! ...I have been delayed, but will be posting pictures soon...this is a great website! I look forward to spending time here browsing everyone's collections and sharing mine. ...to officialfuel.... I still think for $10 that was a good find...I can picture it hanging outside some 'ole gas station/store on the side of an old winding road years ago! I bet it could tell some good stories if it could talk!

Do you ever get tired of thanking everyone for their "love"?

    Just wondering....
  37. officialfuel officialfuel, 10 months ago
Thanks TGBWC for stopping by and commenting! Ray I will never get tired of thanking people for loving or liking my things or commenting! I was brought up to always thank the person that did something nice for you. Have a great weekend Ray and again thanks for stopping by! :-)

Yes Michael, I was brought up the same way. But I just can't help but think that there are 22 people "loving" this common Coca-Cola thermometer without really knowing why they love it. I mean, they're not loving anything rare or even cool. This "love it" or "like it" thing on CW is more about a popularity vote and less about the the actual item being posted. It's turning into facebook; lets see how many "friends" you can get. You get my point. I may not be the most popular collector on CW, but then, I don't post items to see how many "love it" votes I receive. That's not what show & tell is all about IMO.

And this is in no way a reflection on you Michael. You truly have some awesome items that you've picked up recently. I've been impressed more than once on your items posted on show & tell. And I have commented on them. I just don't believe in turning this into a love fest.

    Have a great picker weekend.
