It looks like a big opal in center which says this was no a cheap piece . Hard to tell much for me photo to small. Very cool piece I love it .
    2. mssue64, 7 years ago
Yes it is an opal, the entire piece is made out of mineral stones, can't tell what all pieces are,but it is carved very well,a beautiful piece just don't have any information on maker or which tribe

I am thinking the black stone is obsidion which is a volcanic stone.I have a Couple of carvings made from it
    8. Manikin Manikin, 7 years ago
I believe that was clue ATTWOD
It is obsidion and Here is one less decorated than yours but made in same way

Aztec Mexico right on ho2cultcha :-)

Wow! you guys are awesome!!!! thanks so very much,Manikin,Attwood, and Ho2cultcha!!!!

I believe it may be Mexican as they do carve obsidian, should it be that. But, they also do a very rich black pottery in southern Mexico that would have a similar look and feel. Without a closeup exam, that would be my rationale.
