I have recently acquired these dolls in a job lot from a house clearance along with some other old dolls.
I know that the one on the right is Betty Boop but can anyone identify who she is made by. She is made of all cloth (felt) her eyes are plastic.
She came with the strange looking doll on the left. Not sure if is is a character from Betty Boop or totally unrelated but they are very similar in the way they are made.
He is also made of felt / cloth and has eyes that look like similar I have seen on Farnell toys. I wonder if he is maybe another cartoon character from the 1930's, but who is he ?
Both toys are approximately 10 in height
Any information would be greatly appreciated !!

Dolly I am working on this one . They are very uncommon but made in fine quality . I am on love with them both and doing a bit of research on makers . I have seen many Betty Boops none just like her , There were about 200 companies that made her and her friend . Ideal Toy co.made a very early Betty however she was not made of felt like yours . I get the feel that some company that also did Teddy bears made these as the construction is similar to a Teddy Bear , So as soon as I have a answer I will post for you :-)

I'm still no wiser on these dolls, although I believe the Betty Boop doll is Spanish

I have been looking at your dolls. I think they may have been made by an Italian company call LARS. Very similar style of manufacturing as their other dolls.

The doll Betty Boop was create for Pedro Gros, manufacturer in Madrid, Spain, 30s. year.

I had always thought the one on the left was Josephine Baker rather than a boy doll. Maybe I am just cracked !!!!
vetraio50 - funny that, my husband suggested Josephine Baker too! Well this has got me searching all over again. I still have the dolls! I'm now wondering if Pedro Gros also made the boy doll, he looks quite similar to some I have found that were based on cartoons by Salvador Bartolozzi - take a look at this link. These pieces were made by the Spanish painter and sculptor Pedro Gros in Madrid (1931-1957) with own themes or comics of Mingote, Bartolozzi, Claret... They are highly valued in Europe are from €500 to €2000 or more according to their conservation and accessories. If you have any in perfect condition contact me.

The doll Betty Boop made by Pedro Gros, and the boy is also Gro's and his name is "Bobito" to belongs to the stories drawn by Demetrio Lopez Vargas.

The information suggested for Dollycoll over Carrusel magazine, is not reliable, has been investigated a lot about Gros and some pieces attributed to him are not. They are erroneous information that can be copied from one another
The two pieces are Spanish and made by Pedro Gros

Indeed, the Florido firm made similar dolls, but the ones that are show to find out the origin, Bobito and Betty Boop, were made by the Pedro Gros firm, based on the comics of both
