I´m quite sure this is a bakelit necklace. I haven´t been able to find simichrome yet but I have tryed another formula with the exactly the same purpose (metallpolish). The formula is white but when used on this necklace it came up yellowish. I tryed the formula on other necklaces that I know isn´t bakelit and it didn´t react the same way. I love this necklace and it fits exactly round my neck, not too long.

How old do you think this is? Can the beadclasp give you an idea?
In the last photo the necklace is seen with another necklace wich is not bakelit for sure. Is this color of bakelit called "amber" ?

Thanks nutsabotas6 for your coment! Bakelite jewelry really isn't known or infashion here which makes it hard to find them. It's also a bit tricky to know if it's a nice one or not because of the fact that I haven't seen one in real life before. But I do think it's nice looking.

Thankful for ideas on the age of this necklace. Can the clasp give anyone a clue perhaps?

Sorry I missed this a few days ago. Is the screw on brown metal or plastic? I have only seen 1930's examples of bakelite w/plastic screw which leads me to believe your brown is 1950's bakelite. OR it could be a European item that I haven't seen here. Really lovely!!!

Your necklace color in pic 3 isn't "amber" (that would be yellow to brown true amber) tones. It looks orange. And your necklace in 1 or 2 could be called tortoise shell, rootbeer, or brown as a description of color....very nice!

Hi Val. You've seen these before in an email. Decided to post the brown one as I'm quite sure now that's bakelite. It has a metall screw that looked a bit greenish from use. The orange necklace isn't bakelite, I only added it in order to show the color of the bakelite necklace campared to some other color. So it's the same bakelite necklace in all photos, but maybe that's what you ment. So it's rootbeer/brown color in 'bakelitelanguage' :). It's not easy to know because some of the beads are very near in color to real amber that I have. So bakelit amber color is more yellow or red? Thanks Val!

In bakelite language - the brown one is best described as tortoiseshell or rootbeer.

Amber bakelite can be described as all the colors that real amber are: yellow to brown to deep red.

They are very beautiful by the way! Thank you for posting - I love brown and this is a very lovely necklace. Sometimes the length of the necklace can also help date it. 20" plus were popular in the early 20's and 30's. Shorter "choker" 15", 16", 17" popular in the 1950's.

Hi, sorry for late respons. Work, work..I feel tryerd already after summer vaccation.

Thanks Val very much! That's great info cause then I know mine is from around 1950s probably. It's about 15 inches. It took a lot of searching to find this. Bakelit seams to be rare around here. Look in your email.... :)

Beautiful ! I am getting ready to look threw those bags of what I believe to be Costume jewelry. Hope I can find something cool looking like this. You know I will be asking about it Elisabethan. Girl I just don't want to flood collectors weekly page asking questions. I wish you had an email address.

Elisabeth you communicate very well. I know what you are trying to say so don't apologize. I would not be able to translate as well as you do.

I'm not sure why bakelite is hard for you to find. Bakelite that may be more available for you? Items w/metal and chrome (English, French, German marks) such as the Jacob Bengel items listed by other members.

Yes I just looked at my email and will contact you from there - wow!
