Purchased this at an antique show because I loved the size of the trunk and the hardware on it. Never again will I take on a trunk that has paint on it, this one had several coats of white paint. Thankfully they hadn't painted the slats. It took forever to get the paint off, I used paint remover which got off a lot but then had to sand and scrape to try and get the rest off. I finally gave in to the paint and decided to live with some in places. It was that or surrender and say the paint won the battle and leave the trunk in the garage. It is 18 by 15 and 17 inches tall. It originally had a tray which was missing as so many are in these old trunks. I still love the trunk even with white paint visible in some areas. I've learned my lesson and will walk away from painted trunks from this point forward. I say that now but one day I'm sure I will run across a trunk that I just have to own and will forget the nightmare of removing paint.

Thanks for the love everyone. JonB - I try to hunt down the smaller ones with seven full size trunks (maybe more) in the house I need to be buying smaller trunks. Hat and doll trunks are what I'm focusing on now, but having said that I'm sure a big trunk will come along that I fall in love with. We all say trunks make great storage, most people store blankets, trunk addicts store other trunks.
JonB - I'm sure if a beautiful Martin Maier like you posted comes along I would add another large trunk to my collection, even one that is painted. I would struggle with the paint remover again if I had to. I don't have a Martin Maier but hope to one day.
