I dont know much about this tray, it is in very nice condition, but needs polished a little 7 3/4 by 11 inches and a 1/2 inch deep, I believe it is sterling

WN is the maker, The Crown says that it is Sheffield, the Lion Passant guarantees the sterling content, the last mark is a date letter which I cannot fully make out. Check it with this site: http://www.925-1000.com/dlc_sheffield.html
Then the year of making will enable you to pinpoint a makerfor sure : either William Nowill (1827..1844) or William Needham (1894..1938). Two different time periods. Only the date letter will tell.
But I'll take a guess from the image and style of the tray and say it's William Needham 1903, based on what I see as an "l".
The design is typically "Edwardian" and can be described as a flat tray with a lobed edge, the central surface covered in elaborate repoussé decoration, including birds, tulips and a "North Wind" figure.

That's not the north wind....it's Greenman. A popular European motif! I collect Greenman Buttons, as well as Greenman "stuff". He's usually depicted with his mouth open and vines coming out. I want this tray!!! Here's an article:

thank you buttonista, I do see the face in the lower middle of the tray, what is it worth? we can't sell on here, but I would part with it, it is in very nice condition
