This store advertising display is the product of my imagination. I added the sheet metal warning device for fences to my collection recently. The device was patented April 3, 1894 by Leonard Herweyer of Vogel Centre, Michigan. I began wondering how he would advertise his product. Warning devices were typically used as the top wire of a fence to attract attention. The other three wires on the display are patented items. Adding them to the display allows me to imagine how a fence of the era may have looked. The bottom wire was patented November 29, 1882 by Peter P. Hill of Lee Station, Illinois. The wire above was patented May 14, 1878 by Hiram Reynolds of Marshalltown, Iowa. The second wire above was patented December 12, 1876 by John C. Nelson of Creston, IIlinois.

P.S. I must work on my photography skills. Pardon the dark photo.

September 9, 2017 - This display was awarded first place in Warning Plate Category at the Colorado Wire Collectors convention at Yuma, Colorado.

What a great idea Gatekeeper! You seem to have well and truly absorbed the skills for designing a period gate :)

I just love all these farm ‘stuffs’ of yours, the gates the wires..wonderfully simple but revolutionary at the time and to find all these small items still even with bits missing, like my glass of sometimes 100 or so years old still in one piece and the history that goes with it!
Sorry! I missed so much of your stuff, but don’t come on as often as I used to and easy to miss so many wonderful items..

Thank you inky. Those are kind words.
