This brooch is about 2.75" x 1.5". I think it is pewter but it is not marked and has no makers mark. The pin popped off and I've never had it fixed. I bought this in December 1997 when I was a member of a wedding party in Aberdeen, Scotland. My friend was marrying a Dundee girl. One of my ancestors was from St. Andrews and was on the losing side at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650 and was deported to Maryland, so I made it a point to take the bus to St. Andrews. I wanted a souvenir of my visit, but the main street in St. Andrews is surprisingly touristy, so I hit the back streets and found a small thrift shop where I found this pin. I don't recall if I haggled on the price, or not. I did not remember that there was a label on the box when I looked at the pin today and thought I was going to have to mark this as a mystery until I turned it over. Vale of Garnock seems to be extinct as a jewelry maker. No idea when this was made except it was before 1998.
