Vintage WW2 Era Ford Built Consolidated B-24 Desk Model

Henry Ford saw that war was coming in 1939. His company became involved with producing many military products including vehicles, engines, superchargers and generators but was renowned for producing more B-24 Liberators then any other factory. In fact, Ford produced over 86,000 airplanes by war's end. Certainly along the way there were scraps of aluminum available that Ford's marketing took advantage of an had cast into B-24 models. In addition, Ford's staff also took advantage of the available auto parts not being used and made bases from outside mirror assemblies. These models were awarded to many recipients including employees, suppliers and Army Air Corps brass. Whenever a "milestone" number in production was made, these models found there way into the hands of dignitaries on hand for any given celebration. This particular model was found in an attic near Detroit and procured by the son whose father flew B-24's in the South Pacific. For many years that pilot claimed he always "favored Fords" to be better built and easier to fly.
