I found this tonight and I tried to get a good pic, but it's late and I am no photographer. I believe it has Aztec motifs, enamel and silverplate. It is signed, but I cannot make out the signature. If anyone can help, I would most definitely appreciate it.

The photo isn't so good but the mark in the last picture appears to be a Mexican mark.

Yes, he is about my age and Mexican. He is well known for Mexican reproductions of Aztec items. I wouldn't state this as sterling until you have it silver tested.
You need to understand he does work in gold and silver but both are plated not pure gold or sterling
